Santander
Gender Equity Session for 100 Global leaders

Client Brief

Santander UK plc, part of the Santander Group, is a leading financial services provider in the UK, offering a wide range of personal and commercial financial products and services.

In 2011 Global Diversity Practice were commissioned by Santander UK to deliver Unconscious Bias and Inclusive Leadership training. Santander took the opportunity to review their face to face Diversity Awareness Training offering to Senior Leaders.

One of the key drivers for the training was to ensure that senior leaders were given the tools to understand how bias may be influencing the career progression of women, their reactions to flexible working, their own leadership behaviours and the impact these behaviours can have on the corporate culture to help everyone fulfill their work and personal commitments.

Key Deliverables

• An online Unconscious Bias questionnaire survey to 150 respondents was administered as was interaction with key stakeholders.  The results and analysis of these interviews along with the survey results informed content, methodology, delivery techniques, evaluation criteria, KPIs and metrics.

• An innovative digital tool was created based around situations relevant to the daily realities of senior leaders in managing attraction, progression, development, and their own leadership behaviours. The scenarios demystified bias and its impact.

Impact

Based on feedback received, the course was a resounding success with 100% of participants agreeing that the course met their expectations and learning objectives. 80% also strongly agreed that the course was relevant to the company needs. In 2012, Santander and Global Diversity Practice received the ENEI Award for Training Excellence and Impact.

"A really excellent experience, many thanks."
"I wanted to drop you a line to thank you for enrolling me on yesterdays Diversity and Inclusion Course.  I have to confess I was a reluctant candidate for a variety of reasons and greatly feared that it would be simply PC and of little value. By contrast it was one of the most thought provoking and rewarding things I have been involved in.  That we as a company recognize our shortcomings culturally and are doing something about it reinforces the choice I made to join.  I found the honesty and the shared experiences of my colleagues refreshing and really must commend Farrah on the way she delivered the course and encouraged a structured debate."
